Hamidul Haq, the son of slain Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Samiul Haq, says he is going to Qatar at the invitation of Afghan Taliban leaders to advise on ongoing peace talks.
Hamidul Haq told a news conference in Multan that the invitation had been extended by the Taliban’s Qatar office.
Emphasis on Aafia’s release
Samiul Haq’s son also said that Taliban leaders had already promised to release Aafia Siddiqui in talks with the United States.
Aafia Siddiqui was a Pakistani doctor who was accused and imprisoned by the United States of aiding and abetting the killing of its troops in Afghanistan.
He was extradited to the United States, where he was sentenced by a Pakistani court to five years in prison.
The Taliban’s negotiating team in its meetings with the US side mentioned her release as one of its main conditions.
America is humiliated!
In his latest remarks, Maulana Samiul Haq’s son also said that the United States was leaving Afghanistan in disgrace.
He stressed the importance of Afghan peace for the stability of the region.
Hamidul Haq did not give an exact date for the upcoming meeting with the Taliban delegation to Qatar, but said it would take place soon.
